Whether you are planning one science lesson or a series of lessons for a science topic, consider how you could make use of these adaptations to support children in your class.
You may not use all these strategies in every lesson but it can be helpful to have some examples of each one so that you can respond to children’s needs and adapt your teaching.

• Pre-teach / use a pre-task linking science to real-life and children’s experiences
• Contextualise information using images, videos and books
• Teach new vocabulary explicitly – use symbols, a working wall, discuss new words
• Practice vocabulary using songs, games or discussion
• Introduce new concepts through discussion, demonstration or a question
• Note common misconceptions for your topic
• Plan scaffolds and stem sentences
• Plan how you will model key concepts or tasks
• Plan targeted support using peers and adult support
